Serbia - Vlade Divac got Medal of Honor

Famous and legendary Serbian basketball player, Vlade Divac, got prestigious The Ellis Island Medal of Honor. Mission of this award is to “honor and preserve diversity and to foster tolerance, respect and understanding among religious and ethnic groups” as it can be read on official site.
Vlade Divac ended professional career at the end of the last season, but he continued his humanitarian work as UN’s “Goodwill Ambassador”. After great contribution in making new houses in areas destroyed by tsunami last year in Indonesia and lot of humanitarian work in Serbia and California in past years, Divac visited China last month and spent several days in playing with local kids.
Divac is cofounder of humanitarian organization “Group 7” which also includes names of 7 best Serbian basketball players in last decade (Bodiroga, Danilovic, Rebraca, Savic, Paspalj, Djordjevic). That organization collected over 2 million dollars in last 10 years for children all over former Yugoslavia.

Former medalists of The Ellis Island Medal of Honor were among the others: Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, Frank Sinatra
